Nestled in Lake Nicaragua, the largest freshwater lake in Central America, this remote community faces a heartbreaking irony: surrounded by water, yet thirsting for clean, safe water to drink. Years of contamination have transformed what should be a blessing into a daily risk for every family who calls this island home.
The Heart of Our Mission
Since opening our dining hall on Zapatera Island, NUTEJE America has been nourishing 65 children daily with warm meals and even warmer hearts. But we've witnessed something that calls us to do more: families drinking directly from the contaminated lake, children falling ill from waterborne diseases, mothers worrying about the water they use to cook for their families.

Phase 1: Laying the Foundation of Change
We'll begin by creating a network of underground pipes, carefully laid with respect for the island's natural beauty. Local families will work alongside our team, turning this project into a true community endeavor. Every meter of pipe laid is a step closer to healthier children, stronger families, and a more vibrant community.
Phase 2: Raising Hope High
A solar-powered water tower will rise as a beacon of progress—sustainable, reliable, and built to serve generations. The sun that has warmed this island for centuries will now power the pump that brings clean water to every family.
